| Preparing and Sewing the Hearts blocks
Trace the heart shapes onto the paper side of the fusible
webbing and cut out leaving approx 1/4in all around the
edge. Iron these onto the wrong side of the yellow print
fabric and cut out on the pencil line. Position the hearts
onto the right side of the large cream squares and press
in place. Do not be concerned if the hearts lift off during
the sewing stage, simply repress. Sew the hearts in place
using blanket stitch applique. Also read Helens article

Nine Patch Block Construction
Sew the block by sewing the squares into strips of blue/cream/blue,
8 required, press the seams towards the darker fabric cream/blue/cream,
4 required, press as above Then sew the strips together
according to the coloured diagram. Press Repeat this process
for the 4 small squares in the borders. Sew one of these
blocks onto either end of two of the border strips. Set
aside.
Sew the centre of the wall hanging together, by pinning
and sewing 3 heart blocks to 3 nine patch blocks. Then sew
another nine patch block onto the other side of one heart
block. Sew a heart block onto the oposite side of the remaining
nine patch/heart blocks. Carefully pin and sew these strips
together.
Adding the borders. Pin and sew the two short border strips
to the centre section and then add the two longer strips
to the opposite sides. Press.
Mark with any desired quilting pattern. Layer the wallhanging
top, wadding and backing fabric. Baste or pin together.
Trim the excess wadding and backing fabric to 1in (2.5cm)
outside the edge of the wallhanging.
Quilt as desired. Check that the corners are square and
trim the wadding and backing to the edge of the wallhanging.
Make a hanging sleeve from the left over backing fabric
and pin in place with the raw edge of the sleeve in line
with the edge of the hanging. The top edge of the sleeve
will be sewn in place with the binding.
Prepare the binding by joining the three binding strips
together, press the seams open. Fold in half lengthwise
with wrong side together and press. Fold in a 1/4 in (6mm)
seam allowance at one end and pin to the right side of the
wallhanging beginning approx 4 in (10cm) from a corner.
Pin and sew down the first side to 1/4in from the corner.
Stop sewing and make a mitre turn, pin and sew to the next
corner repeat the mitre corner. Continue around the hanging,
trim away the excess binding fabric leaving 1/4in to overlap
the beginning edge. Fold the binding to the back and sew
in place with a fine slip stitch. Stitch the lower edge
of the sleeve in place.
